How long do dental implants last?+
With healthy gums and good maintenance, implants routinely last decades — many are still functioning after twenty years and more. The crown on top may need replacing sooner. Success depends heavily on bone quality and bite forces, which is why the planning phase matters so much.
What's the difference between a crown and an onlay?+
Both restore a damaged tooth, but they differ in how much they cover. A crown caps the entire tooth above the gumline, which is the right call when there isn't enough healthy structure left to build around. An onlay covers only the damaged cusps and chewing surface, leaving sound tooth structure untouched — a more conservative repair when the tooth doesn't need a full crown. We follow biomimetic principles, so if an onlay will do the job as well as a crown, that's what we recommend.
Can I really get a crown in one visit?+
Yes. Our CEREC Primescan and Primemill system lets Dr. Elledge scan the tooth, design the restoration on screen, and mill it in ceramic right here in the studio — usually in about the time a traditional crown appointment takes just for the temporary. There's no impression, no temporary crown, and no second visit to have it seated.
Will a restoration match my other teeth?+
That's the goal of every restoration we place. Ceramic crowns, onlays and veneers are shade-matched to the teeth beside them before milling, and biomimetic principles guide how we shape and finish the restoration so it reflects light the way natural enamel does. Most patients tell us they can't find the tooth we worked on once it's finished.
